Bradford Model Engineers Society open day

A slightly belated post because we were off on a Scout Camp last weekend.  The one before, we paid a brief visit to the Northcliff line of the Bradford Model Engineering Society, near Shipley.  It was an open day for the society with a wide variety of trains running, giving rides to the public round their extensive tracks in Northcliff Park.  It was a nice morning, so we took the Foster Childs for a ride on the trains.

It was early in the day, and we were amongst the first members of the public there, so The Childs had a train to themselves, which they enjoyed.

Nice mix of trains too- live steam, petrol, battery-electric...

Particularly taken with this one which was built around a car battery for propulsion power.  Definitely the sort of thing I'd like to build, with time, money, and a workshop.  Hell, with a big enough garden, a railway like this running round it would be super.

A very enjoyable morning, even if the visit was brief (but we did go back for their 'normal' running afternoon on sunday because The Childs enjoyed it so much).  Northcliff Park is a decent bit of parkland too, a very large bit of greenery with playgrounds, paths, streams, football pitches, and so on.

A nice morning out, and the volunteers running the line were friendly and welcoming.  The rides are very reasonable- just a donation in the box when you're queing for the platform.  Anyway, more info here:
