The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway was partially closed during early September for the replacement of a bridge up at Haworth. Whilst it was closed, the KWVR were running a frequent service with two of their DMU's, and being a fan of units, I thought it would give me plenty of opportunities to get some pics.
It started poorly; the weather was forecast to be as typically grim as ever it has been this summer.
I was surprised therefore wen the sun did come out. For about ten minutes...
Pacer up at Damems.
I ended up trying to find some interesting and creative angles to compensate for the overcast sky.
Last shots of the day, whilst playing Dad's Taxi to Elder Child.
The next morning dawned wet, miserable, grim, and manky. But on the other hand, I thought it would be quiet in terms of other photographers, keep the random nutters away, and give me the opportunity for some moody shots around the Keighley and of the line.
And boy, was it wet...
I love this angle; it never gets published in mags (though did end up being used by the railways instagram feed)
This is the sort of shot I was after- gloomy, and with the stone walls dominating the shot.
Down in the gloom of the path near the embankments.
By this point, the camera (and my phone) were playing up; I was getting seriously worried that I was going to wreck the camera altogether in the rain, so I bailed out. Still, I managed to get one shot in print (Trackside Magazine) and a few were picked up for use by the KWVR's marketing department, which made a morning getting drenched worth the bother.
