A fortnight in Wales presented a few opportunities for some railway photographs, in varying weather conditions, so here is a batch from the Ffestiniog Railway taken over the Easter hols.
An afternoon walk up in the hills near Penrhyndeudraeth led us to the stone embankment in the woods.
It was Easter Monday, so extra trains running, which meant at least The Childs (Youngest and Eldest) didn't get too bored waiting to take their own photos alongside us.
The lighting for the train coming from the south was a little poor, so I thought I'd try a monochrome shot to see if it made any improvement.
This shot incidentally is by the Youngest Child, who at 5 is already showing a good eye for railway photography.
Porthmadog Harbour station is always a good spot to visit, as it has a good café and bar for snackage/drinks, an excellent shop, and there is always something moving, so it makes a natural destination whilst strolling around the town.
Nice to see the 'England' tank locomotives "Prince" and "Palmerston" in use.
Right place at the right time as one of the Double Fairlie locomotives makes a spirited departure alongside the England locos... I've wanted a shot like this for a while so it was nice to finally get the pic.
All in all a nice little batch of shots, and a taster for the "Quirks and Curiosities" gala which we went back to Wales for just after the holidays... more on that in a separate post.
