Easter in Somerset; City of Wells

Easter Sunday saw us in the historic City of Wells.

This was for two reasons; two of our group wished to attend an Easter Sunday church service, and Elder Child wished to place her own pilgrammage, to visit the shooting locations of her favourite film, the Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg/Nick Frost comedy "Hot Fuzz"

"No use catching those swans then?"
"It's just the one swan, actually..."

We went to the Bishops Palace Garden after a wander of the high street.

Very pretty here about...

...more fern envy too.  We're trying to get the wall in our garden suitably colonised by these plants.

The Cathedral itself was very impressive, loads of nice details but this clock really stood out.

More interesting to us was this row of houses, reached through an arch near the Cathedral.

A beautifully preserved street of ancient houses; look at those chimneys, superb craftsmanship.

Amy studied Medieval history, so we spent a fair bit just wandering around here, looking at the details.

Then it was a walk back around the town, though we were losing the light a bit by this point, and just decided to head back to Glasto.  Some of our group then went for a walk up the Tor, but we ended up doing it in better weather later in the week, so that can wait for a post in a couple of days...
