An interlude away from Wales; midweek, Amy and I left The Childs with my parents in Wales, and raced back to Yorkshire. We'd booked a trip on the Scarborough Spa Express, steam-hauled from Skipton to the seaside and back; a delayed Anniversary outing, we'd be travelling in swanky first class.
Arrival in Skipton, where the fog was lingering.
The train arrived bang on time, with the loco running as 45627 "Sierra Leone" (a loco in reality scrapped back in the 1960's).
Very luxurious in the Pullman carriage, and a delicious breakfast.
Not the most scenic of views whilst we waited on the outskirts of York, apparently to take on water.
Rather more impressive surroundings at York Station itself.
Arrival in Scarborough, in the sunshine.
We did a little shopping, and wandered down for a cool drink on the seafront.
A couple of hours at the seaside, and it was back to the train, for a lovely meal on the run home.
Darkness falling as we headed through Shipley.
Arrival at Skipton.
There's always an old man standing inconveniently next to the engine when you're trying to get a photo...
A lovely day out, and whilst this isn't the sort of thing we'll be doing often, it's a nice treat to do something like this every now and again.
