Keighley Station by Night

As mentioned in the last post, there was a grand plan to get a load of night shots done around the KWVR on the Friday of the Beer and Music Festival.  Lots of trains, and Father-in-Law was working in the Old Parcels Office bar on the bridge, so we'd have somewhere convivial to dive into to keep warm between trains, and get a drink or two.

And then my (Ben's) work went from a 7.5 hour shift to a 12 hour (the wonders of working for the NHS) and by the time I'd got home, done tea, and dealt with a minor riot amongst The Childs it was already 8pm and I was fit to drop.

Saturday Night saw me, Amy, and Elder Child out instead.  Keighley Station had an... odd atmosphere, even compared to normal. We'd expected the place to be buzzing -the Saturday had apparently sold out of tickets at the main festival sites- but when we got there, there were only the private security guards manning the makeshift entrance from the Network Rail platforms.

We hung around for one train; we left going in the Parcels Bar, as when we'd walked past we'd enjoyed the twin pleasures of a drunk idiot breathing smoke in our faces and a woman gobbing at my boots (ah, Keighley), and thought the platform offered more opportunities for photographs.

It was at least very atmospheric.

Opportunities for actual locomotive photography were distinctly limited however; a combination of long, top-and-tailed trains, and much of the station being sealed off for building work over the winter.

Our favourite shot of the night, one of Amy's.

A little disappointed, we left once the train departed.  Maybe next year we can do the Friday when it sounded like there was a nicer atmosphere with more going on, and by then the building work will have been completed, and the station won't be quite as covered in scaffolding.
