And tonight, another castle (seriously, I know we are up near the border with Scotland, and for a big chunk of our history we were scrapping, but it seems like every hill in Northumberland had a castle on it sometimes).
Bamburgh is a bit different in that, as well as being a tourist trap, it is still an inhabited castle. Lovely display of Napoleonic War-era cannon on the battlements; Lindisfarne was Amys period of history, this is Bens...
The castle itself is impressive- almost totally intact, and probably one of the last castles to be modernised in the early 20th Century, so a right mix of building styles on this castle...
The ceiling of the Great Hall was far and away the most impressive part of the place- they even supplied you with mirrors so you could easily see the detail without hurting your neck.
And finally, the castle brooding slightly over the village. An all-round impressive place, with a nice mix of exhibits (including a few rooms dedicated to the shipbuilding and aircraft design of Lord Armstrong, the industrial tycoon who was once a resident).
Tomorrow, not a castle, just for a change...
