Northumberland... Chain Bridge Honey Farm

Whilst we were waiting for the right tide to cross the causeway onto Holy Island, we thought we'd head up to Chain Bridge Honey Farm, just west of Berwick upon Tweed.

We'll start with the bridge, which crosses the Tweed and consequently has one end in England, and one in Scotland.

Rather nice weathered texture on a sign at the English end.

A project Amy has wanted to do for a while has been documenting surviving postboxes, this being a rather tasteful example at the end of the bridge.

Detail- new nut and bolt on a very old bracket.

Arty lines and shadows shot...

The very impressive bridge itself, from the Scotland end.

And so to the farm.  As the name suggests, this is mainly a honey farm (and very nice honey it is too!) but what makes it appealing from a photography point of view is that one of the owners is a collector of... well... everything apparently, as will become obvious.

Detail on a lovely old steam traction engine, one of many items of farm machinery on display.  A large number of preserved tractors were on show in a converted barn, with smaller exhibits up on a mezzanine level, such as;

Typewriters...

...wireless radios...

...and petrol tins, amongst many hundreds of other items.

Outside there was a wide variety of vehicles.  I (Ben) have always rather liked the design of the 60's Saracen personnel carrier, so thought I'd have a little play at doing some abstract angles on it.

Adding even more variety to the collection, an under-restoration ex Midland Railway inspection vehicle, which had come from the National Railway Museum at York.

Anything else?  Well the cafĂ© in a converted double-decker bus was good value with very friendly service and a pleasantly eccentric place to eat a nice and tasty beef sandwich.  The farm staff (apparently all related to the owning family) were friendly and welcoming, and the place had a marvellously eccentric atmosphere.  Free to visit too, always a bonus when arriving as a family group.  Home page is here https://www.chainbridgehoney.com/visitor-centre/
