Back in the summer, we went for a trip to the Dr.Who Experience in Cardiff. This had been on our list of places to visit for some time, and with it due to close in September '17 we knew this was our last chance. It didn't disappoint; the actual interactive tour was suitably entertaining (and scary for the Younger Childs), then the collection of props and costumes was amazing.
Interesting set design models...
About the only miniature on display (which was the only real disappointment) was the Dalek Emperor from the first series of the revived Dr.Who.
Speaking of Daleks, some examples of the style which first terrified the hell out of me (Ben) as a small child. I still prefer these over the newer Bronze ones...
Special Weapons Dalek.
And another 'classic' series Dalek. By this point I'd decided to stop the normal photographs and try some dramatic portraits from the props and costumes. I rather liked the lighting and set for this one, and decided to see what else I could find to shoot in a similar style...
The Angel worked better in grey scale, and was a very impressive piece of craftsmanship.
The Davros piece was equally suited to grey scale.
The display was great; the only disappointment (apart from the lack of miniatures) was the shop wasn't that well stocked, but then the place was only weeks from closure. It is a shame it couldn't be kept open, we were really taken by it, and the opportunity to shoot some very unusual portrait-type shots was great.
